Oral Care and Braces in North Wales, PA

The Smiles for Kids team is here to support you and your child during his or her orthodontic treatment. Our goal is to your child’s orthodontic experience is smooth and does not have any complications.

Good Home Hygiene is Essential

Brush after eating and flossing regularly is STRONGLY recommended if your child has any sort of oral appliance. Having an orthodontic appliance increases the risk for cavities, so home care should not be taken lightly when orthodontia is involved.

Whether your child has braces, an orthodontic appliance, or even clear aligners, Dr. Lockwood and our team recommend brushing after eating. So often, we see the areas above the brackets on the top teeth and below the brackets on the bottom teeth are missed. It is important to lift the lip from the braces and clean the areas covered by the lip tissue.

Flossing is even more important than normal if your child has braces. Without consistent flossing, gingivitis will set in quickly and cause inflammation and bleeding. The only way to prevent this is flossing regularly—whether your child has braces or not!

If you have concerns about your child’s oral health during orthodontic treatment, don’t hesitate to contact our North Wales pediatric dental office. We’re here to make sure your child grows up with a smile that is just as healthy as it is beautiful!
