Pediatric Dentistry

Pediatric Dentistry in North Wales, PA

As a pediatric dental office serving the North Wales community for more than ten years, our specialty is working with children who are fearful of the dentist, children with special needs, and nervous parents. Dr. Lockwood and our team enjoy making everyone’s experience at the dentist the best ever! Every day is a new adventure; we love meeting new patients and making their dental experience amazing!

Step One: Your child’s first visit.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommend establishing a “Dental Home” for your child by one year of age.

Your child’s first visit to Smiles for Kids often involves very little treatment. It is more for your child to meet Dr. Lockwood and our team, for us to assess if their baby teeth are developing properly, and to provide education to you about proper oral hygiene for your child.

Step Two: Oral Hygiene

Oral hygiene instructions and cleanings are the two of the most important things we concentrate on when it comes to your child’s care. Our goal is to educate our patients and you as a parent, so you can avoid the need for restorative treatment.

Good oral health habits starts early! After feeding, wipe your infant’s gum tissue with a wet washcloth before the baby teeth erupt. When your child’s teeth start to erupt, you can switch to a soft toothbrush. As soon as your child's first tooth erupts, we recommend using a pea-sized amount of non-fluoride toothpaste. At six months of age, you can switch to a fluoridated toothpaste.

Step Three: Fun!

Smiles for Kids is geared towards creating a positive experience from the time you enter our doors to the time you walk out of them. Every moment you spend in your office will be specifically catered to you and your family. You want loud and fun? We got it. You want quiet and calm? We here for you. Just let us know if there's something special we can do to make your visit better, and we will do it!
